Description

Brookdale Cottages are charming thatched cottages situated in the heart of the quaint village of Hilton which is nestled in the hills above Pietermaritzburg.

To welcome you are your hosts, John and Lynne, who offer warm hospitality and personal service to ensure that your stay at Brookdale Cottages will be happy and relaxed.

Set around the swimming pool in an attractive tranquil garden are our three cosy and comfortable cottages: Rose, Bramble and Briar. 

Hilton College, St Anne’s College, Cowan House and Cedara Agricultural College are not far from Brookdale Cottage.

Hilton has two small shopping centres and various restaurants nearby where you can wine and dine. You will also find a railway museum and vintage steam trains at historic Hilton Station.

Brookdale Cottage is within easy walking distance of two wetland areas which abound with birdlife.

Explore the arts and crafts of the Midlands Meander.

The majestic Drakensberg Mountains can be seen from Hilton and are especially beautiful when covered in snow.

Historic Pietermaritzburg and Howick are a 15 minute drive away and the coastal city of Durban a one hour journey.

Nearby Midmar Dam offers yachting, fishing and bird watching.

We are within easy walking distance of two wetland areas which abound with birdlife.
Visit Midlands Meander, Midmar Dam, Howick Falls and Mandela Capture site, Umgeni Valley Nature Reserve, Karkloof Canopy Tour.
Take a day drive to Giants Castle to see bushman paintings, Sani Pass, Kamberg Valley.
Visit Pietermaritzburg, African Bird of Prey Sanctuary, Tala Game Reserve, Albert Falls Dam, Cumberland Nature Reserve, Richmond and the Byrne Valley, Joseph Baynes Agricultural Museum.
A one hour drive will take you to Durban and the uShaka Marine World, Natal Sharks Board, North and South Coast. 

Accommodation

Brookdale Cottages offers three charming, tastefully decorated thatched cottages set around the swimming pool in a pretty country garden. Each cottage has a private garden area with seating and barbeque facilities.

Rose Cottage
Rose Cottage has one bedroom with a Queen size bed and a single bed, en-suite bathroom with bath and overhead shower, a fully equipped kitchenette. There is no lounge but seating is provided.

Bramble Cottage
Bramble Cottage has a main bedroom with King size bed and a junior bed for a small child, a second bedroom with twin beds and a loft room with twin beds. The bathroom has a bath with overhead shower and a separate toilet. There is a lounge and a fully equipped kitchen.

Briar Cottage
Briar Cottage has a main bedroom with twin beds that can be converted into a King size bed if necessary. The second bedroom has a bunk bed. The bathroom is en-suite off the main bedroom and has a bath and cubicle shower. There is no lounge or kitchen however in the main bedroom there is a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster, kettle, crockery and cutlery.

RATES FOR 2010 - This is a general guide and are subject to change so please enquire.

Self-Catering: R270 pppn (sharing) / R400 pppn (single)
Bed & Breakfast: R340 pppn (sharing) / R470 pppn (single)

Reduced rate for teenagers and children under 12 years are half the rate

- We had a very comfortable and quiet overnight stay at Brookdale Cottages and John & Lynne gave us a well cooked breakfast to start our day. We can recommend Brookdale Cottages to anyone who enjoys a beautiful garden and good accommodation.

Directions

From the N3 take Exit 96 (Cedara) and follow the directions to Hilton on the R103. 2 kms from the N3 you will see our signs - turn left into Groenekloof Rd, over the railway line and turn right and immediately right again (ie U-Turn) into Brookdale Way - we are at the end of the road.
