Rustic cottages on Dairy Farm - children welcome to see the cows being milked and the calves being fed. Stunning wlks and excellent birding - some times up to 50 Crowned Crane roosting at the dam. Wattle Crane pair often feeding in the lands - the only stipulation that GATES ARE KEPT CLOSED. Excellent fishing in 2 well stocked dams, chosen for the Trophy Corporate Challenge fishing competition. Hi and welcome! Our comfortable, self-catering cottage is situated on beautiful farmland in the heart of Natal's Midlands Meander, 19km from the village of Nottingham Road. The cottage can sleep up to eight people, is fully equipped and, best of all for those needing a relaxing break, is serviced daily. If you're wanting to do more than mellow in the serene rural setting, activities include still-water trout fishing, walking, and birding. See Activities for more on this. The cottage has a main bedroom with a double bed, a second bedroom with two single beds and a third bedroom, ideal for kids, with four bunk beds. The bathroom has a shower, hand-basin and toilet. The spacious lounge and dining area features an open fire-place - essential to make those chilly winter evenings warm and cosy. Wood is provided, as is a daily litre of fresh milk from the farm dairy. You'll find linen and towels included, as are soap and toilet paper. In fact, all you need bring is your own food and drink as the kitchen is equipped with crockery and cutlery plus electric stove, fridge and microwave. If you prefer to braai, there's a Weber on the stoep. For those important sports events (or for soapie addicts), there's a flat-screen TV with DSTV in the lounge. Access to DSTV is R20 a day. DirectionsFrom Gauteng: Take the Nottingham Road off-ramp and cross over the highway onto the R103. From Durban: Take the Nottingham Road off-ramp on your left, onto the R103. Travel approx 10km till reach Nottingham Road. Excelsior signpost Will pass Gowrie Village and Junction Centre on your left, then bear right under the railway bridge. Proceed into Nottingham Road towards Rosetta and Mooi River, remaining on R103, before turning left onto Lower Loteni Road. Pass church on left, then Clifton School on left and King's School on right. Continue along this tar road for 19km till reach district road D544 on your left. Will see green sign saying "Excelsior Farm Self Catering Cottages" (right). Turn left onto the D544 and carry on for 2.5km till see thatched house (Eland Lodge) on right, and Excelsior Farm main house on left. Carry on past main house and old dairy for a few hundred metres till reach sign to Excelsior Cottage. |
