Description

Mountain Park Hotel is romantic, attractive, tranquil and pleasantly bizarre. This is no ordinary hotel, but is very different with it's creaking floors, crooked doors, low ceilings and unusual ambiance attributed to the several ghostly characters said to reside on the property. In fact Mountain Park is truly one of the few genuinely haunted hotels in the country. Remember that ghosts only make their presence known under certain conditions, at certain times, and to only a very few. IF you are skeptical or uncomfortable with this notion then come and enjoy all the other amenities this unique resort has to offer.

Enter the Manor House and you'll be transported back in time. Built in 1940, it has all the charm and grace of an old Tudor homestead with authentic blackwood beams and ceilings brought up from Knysna.

At Mountain Park there's lots to do. There are guided walks to waterfalls, caverns and natural forests where birds abound and bushmen lived.

We have our own bowling green, tennis court and swimming pool, volley ball and badminton courts, croquet lawn and table tennis.

With a stable full of horses, Mountain Park is home to the Mountneys Paint Horse Stud. Rides go out every day to all sorts of interesting places. There are fast horses, slow horses, horses for beginners and ponies for the children. The stables are situated at the hotel and rides leave and return from there.

The accent of the hotel is on comfort and atmosphere, and a lot of effort has gone into creating this with carefully chosen relics from the past such as ancient broadswords and battleaxes brought from England and Spain.

Mountain Park offers special "Haunted by History" weekends where you will be taken on a ghost tour and given a short history of the haunting and sightings that have taken place in the area. Competitions are held for the best Paranormal Photo taken on the tour, so bring your camera.

In addition to the above, check out our Monthly Giveaway weekends which include very special rates and prizes for lucky winners. For this and details of "Haunted by History" weekends please contact the hotel directly.

There are few places, if any, offering so pleasant an atmosphere with relaxed informal comfort.

The charming cellar tavern "dog in a doublet Arms" - the ideal place for a pub lunch or game of darts- has an old baronial atmosphere with a massive stone fireplace and low wooden beams. Take up a pool challenge, or, after dinner settle into a comfortable chair in the hotel's drawing room with Chaucers' Canterbury Tales to set the scene.

Mountain Park also has a conference room capable of seating up to forty persons, an indoor squash and basketball court, a bird aviary and self-catering accommodation. The hotel borders on the Bulwer Biosphere Mountain Nature Reserve which is host to a large and unusual variety of fauna and flora.
