SA Hotairballooning operates hot air balloon flights on the edge of the Drakensberg mountains and the Natal Midlands in KwaZulu Natal South Africa. Take off is from various sites around the Kamberg Valley and Natal Midlands within sight of Giants Castle.

You will meet approx 30 minutes before sunrise at your allotted hot air balloon launch site. Here your pilot will give you a safety brief. Once the hot air balloon is heated and your in! You will enjoy a flight of around an hour. After helping pack the balloon you will return to a location close to the take off point for an Alfresco breakfast and Champagne.

What to wear when hot air ballooning?

Casual outdoor clothes as if you are going for a walk in the country. Flat shoes, or even better Wellingtons or walking boots, especially in Summer and Autumn, when fields may be damp. Temperatures in the air are similar to those on the ground.

Is there an age limit to hot air ballooning

There is no upper age limit but hot air ballooning is an outdoor sport requiring a degree of agility. Its recommend that people should be fit enough to climb in and out of the balloon basket and to stand for about an hour. Partitioned balloon baskets are specially designed to ensure safety, comfort and a superb view. They are about 1.1 metres high, and have footholds to assist entry. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult on the balloon flight and should be tall enough to see over the basket sides!

Time of day for your balloon flight

Hot air balloon flights are made early morning. Expect to meet 30 minutes before sunrise itself. You will be informed of the meeting time when you make your hot air balloon flight booking.

What is good ballooning weather

For a successful hot air balloon flight light winds are required with no rain and good visibility.

Costs of hot air ballooning

All hot air balloon flights cost R1850 per person and include a champagne breakfast afterwards.

There are also hot air balloon launchsites in other parts of South Africa including Kwa Zulu Natal, Mpumulanga and Gauteng.
